13 wine bars in Madrid worth visiting

As much as I love grabbing a drink at a random bar or sitting in one of Madrid’s many plazas, I have to admit I also love a cute wine bar. It might not be my typical Friday night plan, but every now and then I really enjoy spending an evening in one. From trendy natural wine bars to more traditional spots, Madrid has it all.

Wine bars have definitely become a thing over the past few years. You know the type: small sharing plates, beautiful ceramics, candlelight, soft lighting, and a list of natural wines. And honestly… it works. But if that’s not your style, don’t worry. Madrid is also full of traditional wine bars where you can enjoy a great glass of local wine without all the trendy extras.

To help you choose, I’m sharing some of my favorite wine bars in Madrid. Whether you’re looking for a fresh, funky glass of orange wine (my personal favorite), a Spanish red, or something completely different, there’s something for everyone.

Make sure to visit these wine bars in Madrid

La Alquimia vinos

Cozy vibes, a nice selection of wines, and tasty bites to share. A great place for a relaxed evening. It’s one of those places where you can easily end up staying longer than planned. They’re located close to Chueca’s metro station.

Location: Calle de San Lucas, 15 — Salesas / Justicia

Tresiiies

A very cute spot near Ópera. I don’t meet up in this neighborhood that often, but this is one of the reasons I happily do. And whatever you order, save room for dessert. Their pear cooked in wine is one of my favorites. It’s a great place to stop after walking around the center, and if you are doing some sight-seeing you can visit the Royal Palace before since it’s around the corner.

Location: Calle de la Bola, 4 — Palacio

Vinoteca Vides

One of the very first wine bars I visited in Madrid a few years ago. I still remember sitting at a high table, surrounded by wine bottles, enjoying some cheese and a good glass of red wine. It’s a classic wine bar experience, and one I still recommend to anyone who enjoys discovering Spanish wines in a relaxed setting.

Location: Calle de la Libertad, 12 — Chueca

Casa Botella

A pretty bar in Malasaña with great wines and good food. They organize live music and other events sometimes. There’s seating upstairs and downstairs; upstairs feels cozier, downstairs is where I went to dance during one of the events. It’s a fun place to start your evening before exploring the rest of this neighborhood in Madrid.

Location: Calle de Jesús del Valle, 31 — Malasaña

Corchito

Close to Antón Martín, Corchito is a great place to discover some wines while sharing a few small plates. I haven’t tried much of the food myself yet, but everything coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. Also it’s a great area to be in, with lots of bars and restaurants to explore. A little bar hopping… maybe?

Location: Calle del Salitre, 2 — Lavapiés

FUN FUN

This tiny spot in La Latina feels like someone’s living room. Think candles, dim lighting, colorful prints on the walls, and a natural wine selection with great wine from Spain. It’s intimate and one of those places where it’s easy to lose track of time. Enjoy the sunset from the park around the corner before or after, and there you have you plan for a fun night in Madrid.

Location: Calle de Don Pedro, 20 — La Latina

Vinícola Mentridana (MIRI)

Looking for something that feels a little less trendy and a bit more traditionally Spanish? Head here. Order a cheese platter, try a few Spanish wines, and enjoy the atmosphere. It’s a nice reminder that not every great wine bar needs perfectly styled interiors (I also really love the interior here, don’t get me wrong).

Location: Calle de San Eugenio, 9 — Lavapiés

OBRERA

One of the newer additions to Madrid’s scene, located near the river. They serve both wine and cocktails, have tasty sharing plates, friendly staff, and plenty of space to enjoy and evening in Madrid. It’s also a nice option if you’re spending the day around Madrid Río and want to end it somewhere relaxed with good food and drinks.

Location: Avenida del Manzanares, 62 — San Isidro / Carabanchel

Casa Cometa

Casa Cometa is one of my favorite restaurants in Madrid, but also a wonderful place to stop for just a glass of wine. They have a great selection of local natural wines and a bar to sit at. What else do you need? If you end up getting hungry, I recommend staying for dinner. Everything I’ve had here has been so good!

Location: Calle de Embajadores, 21 — Lavapiés

Masa

Masa Vins is trendy wine bar near Plaza Olavide. Plaza Olavide is one of my favorite squares in Madrid, so it’s the perfect excuse to combine a walk around the neighborhood with a stop here. First things first: don’t skip the bathroom. Trust me. It’s worth a visit. So get yourself a glass of wine in the gorgeous bar in Madrid, and then pass by the bathroom before you leave 😉

Location: Calle de Trafalgar, 22 — Chamberí

Casa Neutrale Wine Bar

Besides being a café and restaurant, Casa Neutrale also has a small wine bar. It’s intimate, dark, and has a really cozy atmosphere. I had one of my favorite wines here when they had just opened. I can’t remember the name, only that the label had astronauts on it. One day I’ll find them (it).

Location: Calle de Amador de los Ríos, 1 — Almagro

María del Río

Another one of my favorite restaurants in Madrid that also deserves a place on this list. There’s a terrace if you’d like to sit outside, but also inside the place it beautiful. And if you ask me, the food is too good not to order something. It’s one of those places that works for a casual drink as well as for a full dinner.

Location: Calle de Doña Urraca, 16 — Puerta del Ángel

Bendito

If you want to combine a visit to a traditional Madrid market with a great glass of wine, Bendito is the place. Located inside Mercado de San Fernando, it only has a handful of tables, but that’s part of its charm. Grab a seat, order a glass, and enjoy the atmosphere of one of Madrid’s local mercados.

Location: Mercado de San Fernando, Calle de Embajadores, 41 — Lavapiés

Bendito vino y vinilos

While eating and drinking, trying the local flavors of the city, for sure is one of the most fun things to do in Madrid, don’t forget about the museums in Madrid. I have plenty of recommendations for anyone who is planning a weekend in Madrid. Madrid is amazing. I love the city so much. Enjoy. And in case it’s raining, which I hope it won’t, here’s my list with things to do on a rainy day in Madrid.
