9 Best vegetarian & vegan restaurants in Madrid, Spain

Even though many restaurants in Madrid have vegetarian or vegan dishes on the menu, sometimes it’s nice to go to a fully vegetarian or fully vegan restaurant. As a vegetarian, this usually comes with an overwhelming feeling. What do you mean I can choose from all these options?! A little extra decision stress (or, as we say in Dutch, keuzestress). But also: I love it.

Whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, or simply looking to eat less meat, Madrid has a lot of great options. From Middle Eastern sharing plates to vegan burgers and Peruvian comfort food, there’s something for everyone. Here are some of my favorite fully vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Madrid.

Vegetarian Restaurants in Madrid

Barganzo

If you’re looking for Middle Eastern vegan and vegetarian food in Madrid, give Barganzo a try! Not only is the food fresh, homemade, and delicious, but the restaurant itself is also beautiful. Expect Middle Eastern flavors, colorful dishes, and plates that are perfect for sharing.

Barganzo in Chueca in Madrid

It’s a great spot for lunch or dinner, especially if you’re going with friends and want to order several plates to share. And if you love hummus, this is definitely a place to add to your Madrid food list.

Falafeleria

You’ll find Falafeleria in several neighborhoods around Madrid, making it a great option when you’re looking for a quick vegetarian bite. It’s perfect for grabbing something to take to the park, but you can also sit down and enjoy your food there.

Think pitas filled with freshly made falafel, or try the mushroom option if you’re in the mood for something different. They also have side dishes and fresh lemonades. A great place for a casual lunch when you’re exploring the city.

Locations: Calle de Santa Bárbara, 4 – Malasaña & Calle de Santa Isabel, 28 – Lavapiés

La Hummuseria

If you like the food at Falafeleria, you’ll probably love La Hummuseria too. The two restaurants have the same owners, so there’s a similar focus on fresh Middle Eastern food, although the menus are a little different.

As the name suggests, hummus plays a big role here. You’ll find different varieties of hummus, fresh salads, and other dishes that are perfect for sharing. It’s a great place to go with a group, especially if you like ordering a little bit of everything.

Location: Calle de Hernán Cortés, 8 – Chueca

Vegan Restaurants in Madrid

If you’re looking for completely plant-based food, Madrid also has some great vegan restaurants. These are a few of my favorites.

Mad Mad Vegan

I love a good vegan burger, and Mad Mad Vegan definitely knows how to make them. For less than €14, you can get a big, stacked burger with fries on the side. There are several options to choose from, whether you prefer a classic burger or something more like a chicken-style burger.

And don’t skip the sides! They have some fun options, including vegan calamari and tequeños. Perfect if you want to try a few extra things alongside your burger. But honestly, for me the burger and fries are usually more than enough. They have locations in both Chueca and Lavapiés.

La Huerta Funky Castizo

Located in central Madrid, La Huerta Funky Castizo serves all-vegan food with a fun twist on traditional Spanish dishes. The menu is made for sharing, which is great because you’ll probably want to try several things.

Think bimi bravas, croquetas, and artichokes. The dishes look familiar, but the ingredients and combinations make them a little different from what you might expect from traditional Spanish food.

One thing I liked here is that you can choose between different portion sizes for some of the starters. This means you can order smaller portions and try more dishes, or go for larger portions if you’re eating with a bigger group. Either way, deciding what to order is probably going to be the hardest part 😉

Location: Calle de las Conchas, 8 – Sol / Ópera

Vega

Vega has two locations in Madrid: one in Malasaña and one in Conde Duque. The entire menu is vegetarian, which explains the name 😉 A great thing they offer is a lunch menu. This means you get a starter, a main course, and dessert for a fixed price. The last time I went, this was around €11. That’s a very good deal for a full lunch in Madrid!

Location: Calle de la Luna, 9 – Malasaña & Calle del Álamo, 3 – Conde Duque

Bite Me Cafe

Bite Me Cafe isn’t your typical vegan restaurant in Madrid. It’s actually a vegan donut shop, but I couldn’t leave it off this list. Because who doesn’t love a good donut? They make homemade sweet and savory donuts, with different flavors to choose from. It’s the perfect place to stop when you’re craving something sweet. Grab a few donuts to take home and enjoy later, or sit down at the cafe with a coffee.

Location: Plaza de la Beata María Ana de Jesús, 2 – Delicias / Arganzuela

Los Andenes

Los Andenes is a vegan Peruvian restaurant in Madrid with two locations. If you love Peruvian food, or simply want to try something different, this is a great place to visit. The menu includes typical Peruvian dishes, but with a plant-based twist. Think empanadas, ceviche, and plenty of rice dishes. It’s a fun way to discover Peruvian cuisine while trying something a little different from the traditional versions.

And don’t forget to order a Chicha Morada on the side! This traditional Peruvian drink is made with purple corn, fruit, and cinnamon.

Frutas Prohibidas

Looking for a vegan brunch spot in Madrid? Make your way to Frutas Prohibidas. Everything on the menu is vegan, including some of the brunch classics you might not expect to find in a plant-based restaurant. Think vegan eggs Benedict, pancakes, colorful fruit bowls, and smoothies. Everything looks fresh, colorful, and delicious.
