Where to get the best ice cream in Madrid

Ice cream is something I could always eat, but with the hot days arriving in Madrid, even more so. From frozen yogurt to Italian gelato, there are many good spots to go for ice cream. Bigger chains, but also lesser-known places that are just as good or, yes, probably even better. I’m sharing my favorite places to get ice cream in Madrid. Enjoy, and take care with the heat. Ice cream helps. Even if it’s just for a little while.

This is where you want to go for ice cream in Madrid

Gelato Lab

Upstairs in Mercado de la Cebada in La Latina, you’ll find Gelato Lab. 100% my favorite place for ice cream. Fresh fruity flavors, toasted butter, gorgonzola, pistachio, and so on. At this place, I actually started to like pistachio ice cream for the first time. Big thanks to my Italian friends for taking me here.

Zúccaru

Combine a refreshing ice cream from Zúccaru in Madrid with a walk next to the Royal Palace. This spot has Sicilian-style gelato, classic flavors, and some more unique options. The Royal Palace is also a great spot to watch the sunset in Madrid. Make that experience even better by adding an ice cream to it. They also have a location in Chamberí.

Gioelia

Okay, yet another Italian ice cream place in Madrid. But what can I say? The Italians know how to do it. And I’m happy to try. At Gioelia, you’ll find a bunch of tasty, creamy flavors, usually including a special monthly flavor. One I loved here was the peach and rose ice cream. So refreshing. Exactly what you need during the hot days in Madrid.

Myka

Frozen yogurt is not technically ice cream, right? But it kind of fulfills the same purpose. Myka is one of the most famous spots for frozen Greek yogurt in Madrid, and queues do happen depending on the time and day you go, but oh, it is good. Mix yogurt flavors or stick with the classic. Add some fruity, chocolatey, or crunchy toppings and you’re good to go.

Gelateria La Romana dal 1947

With multiple locations in Madrid, you’ll never be too far from good ice cream. Get it in a cone, or switch it up with some extra sweetness by turning it into a frappé or adding it on top of a waffle. Creamy, cold, and delicious. It made its way from Rimini in Italy to Madrid in Spain.

Heladería Mamá Elba

This neighborhood spot serves amazing artisanal ice cream in Madrid. Expect to be blown away by the number of options they have. I’d like to try different ones whenever I go, but it’s easy to fall back on the safe choice. The ones you’ve tried before. They also serve a bunch of sugar-free and vegan ice cream options. Perfectly located in the beautiful streets of La Latina.

Manggis

Dulce de leche ice cream? Say no more. With this as an option, it’s hard for me to switch sides and go for a fruit flavor instead. At Manggis they also have pastries and other treats here. But try the ice cream. It’s incredible.

Di Angelo Gelateria

Go for a walk along the “river” in Madrid, enjoy the greenery of Madrid Río Park, and combine it with an ice cream from Di Angelo Gelateria, located right next to the park. Good stuff, as always. And perfectly located next to the park. A great summer evening plan.

Heladería Sienna Narváez

Spending some time in Retiro Park and suddenly craving good ice cream? It happens. I get it. Luckily, there are a few options around the park, one of them being Heladería Sienna Narváez. Stand in line with the locals and get yourself a few scoops of ice cream. Here too, you’ll find plenty of options.

Ragazzi Gelato

Another favorite for a summer evening walk in Madrid, with an ice cream as the final destination. Ragazzi Gelato is another great option in the city, where your sugar cravings will be fulfilled and your body gets to cool down for a bit.

I’ve tried a bunch of ice cream places in Madrid. Also some of the chains they have around here. Yes, some of those are mentioned in this list. Some are not. At the end of the day, at least in my life, I’ve hardly ever tried one that I really did not like. But the ones mentioned above? They are gooood. Really.
